11th Annual Oyster Roast Fundraiser

October 14th, 2017

It is almost that time of year again….Time for one of the area’s most magical events.

The 11th Annual Fort Defiance Oyster Roast will be held on the grounds of the Historic 1792 home of Revolutionary War General William Lenoir from 6-9pm on Saturday October 14th.

This event has been hailed as one of the area’s finest and always gets rave reviews from the attendees.

All profits from this event go directly to the educational programs provided by the Fort.

Tickets for the event are $50 each and includes a delicious Fried Flounder Plate with all the fixins’, a bowl of Brunswick Stew cooked over the open fire on site, a heaping bucket of about two and half dozen steamed oysters, dessert, and a couple of tickets for beer or wine.

Live music and dancing will be provided by the Starlighters this year

(note no outside food or beverage allowed at this event)

  1. We looked for over an hour trying to locate Fort Defiance with no luck, this site is poorly marked to say the least.

    • David,

I’m not sure where you were coming from. We have a brown historic highway sign on 321, another at the bridge at the turn for 268 and a sign stating Fort defiance half mile ahead. We also have a sign at the entrance on 268. Were you coming from the Wilkes county side or the caldwell side?

  2. General William Lenoir is my great × 4 grandfather. I would love to visit this site some day! My son’s middle name is Lenoir, as is the tradition of the Church branch of the Lenoir family, and we’re often asked how he got such a unique name. (The Church branch or the Lenoir family descended from Julia Lenoir, daughter of Walter Raleigh, son of Gen. William Lenoir – Julia married my great ×3 grandpa, Rev Samuel Church)

  3. I sent request for two tickets to the oyster roast last Sunday. I have had no reply. I also called and left a message with no reply. I assume that I do not have tickets to the Oyster Roast on October 8th and that you have not made a credit on my Visa account?
