  1. Thank you for a wonderful celebration of General Lenoir’s birthday. It was my first time visiting Fort Defiance and I’ve lived my entire life in Caldwell County.Very rich and interesting history and I highly recommend if someone hasn’t been there, please visit and take a tour through the.house and pay respects at the Lenoir family cemetery nearby.

  2. something is wrong with your phone # 8287581671. it opens but immediately hangs up. I have been trying for days to reach Becky Phillips regarding the 26th NCT event July 30/31. please call me at 919 475-8241

    • It was a quote from his journal regarding where he lived…. Meaning where he built his home the is now known as Fort Defiance.

  6. My grandmother was Hattie Loiuse Lenior Burdette from Lenior City Tennessee. She married Fred C Jones. Her mother was Eliza Hume Lenior Burdette. My grandmother had an old ledger sheet with what the yankees took from the farm during the Civil War and on the back side was the engraved writing on the head stone for the General. Would it possible to get a copy of the engraved words as I would like to know what it actually said. I may also have some letters from Leniors but I have to hunt them up. Would you be interested in having them?

  7. I purchased two tickets under the name of Woodrow W. Leopard, Jr for the oyster roast. I never received a confirmation, Do we have tickets ?

  9. Becky,

I think your e-mail is not working, it keeps coming back. Please contact me about a program for Burke Quilters. Look forward to hearing from you.

  10. The ad in the Lenoir paper listed an event at your location on the 4th of July, we drove out only to find locked gates. While stopped at your locked gates 5 other cars stopped as well. The events page on your website is badly outdated and the ad was obviously wrong as well. Better communication of scheduling would would certainly be worthwhile to want-to-be visitors.

    • I apologize for the misunderstanding. Sometimes the newspaper fails to consult with us on the events. We have been working on a new webpage but do not have it ready to load. A volunteer maintains the page for us and I’m at their mercy for getting it updated. Guess I should take a class in web development. Also we are in the middle of some major repairs and the house wasn’t accessible for tours on the fort so we opted to not host a 4th celebration this year due to not being able to conduct tours of the house. Please visit us again soon and mention this email and I’ll give you a tour for free. Again I deeply apologize for the mix up.
